Getting there & around

Two ends of the chain. Two ways in.

Fly into George Town for Great Exuma. For the central cays, connect onward to Staniel Cay. The two ends aren’t a casual day trip from each other.

Getting to Staniel Cay

Staniel Cay has its own airstrip, served by charter and small regional flights, often via Nassau or Florida. You can also go by boat from Great Exuma.

Staying on Great Exuma? You don’t need to: full-day boat tours run north to the pigs and grotto.

Rental car or buggy

Great and Little Exuma are long and thin, with one main road. Driving is on the left. A car or buggy gets you to the beaches without signs.

Practical stuff

Before you go

  • Passports: US and Canadian visitors need a valid passport to fly to the Bahamas.
  • Money: the Bahamian dollar is pegged 1:1 to the US dollar and US cash is accepted almost everywhere.
  • Power: same plugs and voltage as the US.
  • Connectivity: fine on Great Exuma; patchy to nonexistent in the far cays and inside the park.
  • Provisions: the smaller cays rely on weekly supply boats. Bring what you can’t live without.
